Sharing Jesus Christ with Others and Growing as His Disciples

The Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are God’s uniquely revealed and written Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and are the church’s first and final authority in all areas of faith and life including, but not limited to, theological doctrine, mission, church order, character, and ethical behavior.
The Bible speaks to us with the authority of God himself. We seek to understand, love, follow, obey, surrender, and submit to God’s Word—both Jesus Christ, the living Word of God, and the Scriptures, the written Word of God, which bear true and faithful witness to Jesus Christ.

​We believe in one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, unchangeable, boundless, eternal, almighty, most wise, most holy, and most free.  With Christians everywhere we worship the only true God- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit- who is both one essence and three persons.  God alone is worthy of our worship.

We believe Jesus Christ is both truly God and truly human.  As to His divinity, Jesus Christ is the Living Word, eternally begotten of God the Father. As to His humanity, He is born of the virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ death on the cross was the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world. Jesus was raised from the dead on third day and has ascended to the God the Father in His resurrected body and will return in to judge the living and the dead.

We believe the Holy Spirit makes Christ known and apply the saving work of Jesus to our hearts. The same Holy Spirit who overshadowed the virgin Mary also inspired the writing and preservation of the Scriptures. The Holy Spirit testifies to the authority of God’s Word, illumines our hearts and minds so that we might receive both the Scriptures and Christ Himself.

Salvation is God’s gracious work through Jesus Christ to reclaim humankind and all creation from sin and its consequences. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace received by faith. Christ’s righteousness and atonement are the sole basis for human salvation. Faith in Christ is the only instrument by which this righteousness is received by individual believers, resulting in their justification. Justification is the righteousness of Christ imputed to a sinful woman or man through faith alone in Christ. Their faith appropriates Christ’s atonement, resulting in their sins atoned for and forgiven and God reckoning them to be righteous.

Faith is (1) accepting the message of salvation as true and (2) trusting God to apply this salvation to us.  Faith is “certain knowledge” and “wholehearted trust,” that is created in us by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. In faith we accept, receive, and rest “upon Christ alone for justification, sanctification, and eternal life, by virtue of the covenant of grace.” (Westminster Confession of Faith, 6.080)

We believe the Church is composed of all persons who through faith in Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit are united together in the body of Christ.  The church is a covenant community which experiences God’s grace through the preaching of the Word, the administration of the Sacraments, the faithful and mutual practice of discipline, and loving fellowship is maintained.  The Holy Spirit gathers us in a community that is built up to be light, salt, and yeast in the world.  Jesus Christ sends us into the world to make disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything Christ has commanded us.

Hackberry Creek Church is a member of The Fellowship Community, a presbyterian order that emphatically asserts the centrality and authority of Scripture in the life of the church.

The Fellowship Community (TFC) is a network of churches and leaders called together to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ by growing in Christ’s likeness, living by God’s Word, and joining in God’s mission in the world. At the heart of The Fellowship Community, is the desire to foster a covenanted biblical community, where we are united by a clearly articulated theology, a shared commitment to disciple-making, and a culture of encouragement and accountability.
